The line of immigrant rights marchers about 2,000 strong stretched about three blocks down Sixth Avenue, approaching 36th Street about 10 a.m.

Sixth Avenue has been closed to traffic in both directions from Southgate Shopping Center at Interstate 10 to Armory Park and people continue to join the solidarity march from side streets.

Earlier at Southgate, protesters gathered, chanting "¡Sí, se puede!" (Yes, we can) in preparation for the march.
