News From the Border

Providing the news from a different front but from a war that we must win as well! I recognize the poverty and desperate conditions that many Latinos live in. We, as the USA, have a responsibility to do as much as we can to reach out to aid and assist spiritually with the Gospel and naturally with training, technology and resources. But poverty gives no one the right to break the laws of another sovereign nation.

Agents seize 928 pounds of pot Saturday

FROM STAFF REPORTS

April 30, 2007 - 8:41PM

Border agents seized about 928 pounds of marijuana and the vehicle containing it Saturday.

At 6 p.m., U.S. Customs and Border Protection Border Patrol agents assigned to the Yuma sector were patrolling the desert east of the U.S. Port of Entry at San Luis, Ariz. The agents observed three vehicles speeding from the international border into the Arizona desert.

When agents tried to intercept and identify the vehicles, the vehicles turned back toward the border and two evaded agents after crossing into Mexico through a gap in the area's tactical infrastructure.

The third vehicle became stuck about 100 yards from the border. The driver exited the vehicle and fled into Mexico.

When agents reached the vehicle, they discovered several large bundles of marijuana. The drugs have an estimated street value of more than $742,000.
