News From the Border

Providing the news from a different front but from a war that we must win as well! I recognize the poverty and desperate conditions that many Latinos live in. We, as the USA, have a responsibility to do as much as we can to reach out to aid and assist spiritually with the Gospel and naturally with training, technology and resources. Live coverage of this morning's immigration march

The Arizona Republic

May. 1, 2007 07:12 AM

9:45 a.m. - The blocks-long procession is being led by a large group of college students - Arizona State University and other schools - who are wearing red and blue graduation caps and gowns.

The students, who are surrounded by hundreds of volunteer security members in yellow shirts, are marching with signs saying, “We support the Dream Act.”

The act is a federal proposal that would allow undocumented students to gain legal status if they went to college for two years or joined the military.

Police are monitoring the march on bikes, horseback and from street corners.

Marchers are streaming in from side streets to join the procession.
