News From the Border

Providing the news from a different front but from a war that we must win as well! I recognize the poverty and desperate conditions that many Latinos live in. We, as the USA, have a responsibility to do as much as we can to reach out to aid and assist spiritually with the Gospel and naturally with training, technology and resources. But poverty gives no one the right to break the laws of another sovereign nation.

Agents find 70 pounds of pot in firewood

ARIZONA DAILY STAR

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Sasabe port of entry thwarted an attempt by a 69-year-old Mexican man to smuggle 70 pounds of marijuana inside hollowed-out pieces of firewood earlier this week.

On Monday at 5:30 p.m., officers stopped a 1979 Ford F-250 pickup driven by a man from Sasabe, Sonora, after they noticed discrepancies in firewood he had in the pickup, said Brian Levin, Customs and Border Protection spokesman.

They drilled into one of the pieces of firewood and found a package of marijuana. They ended up finding 41 packages of marijuana weighing 70 pounds inside the firewood, Levin said. The man was arrested and the marijuana, wood and vehicle were seized.
