News From the Border

Providing the news from a different front but from a war that we must win as well! I recognize the poverty and desperate conditions that many Latinos live in. We, as the USA, have a responsibility to do as much as we can to reach out to aid and assist spiritually with the Gospel and naturally with training, technology and resources. But poverty gives no one the right to break the laws of another sovereign nation.

PHOENIX - The Arizona Department of Education must come up with a process to determine the citizenship of Arizonans seeking adult education classes and programs, Attorney General Terry Goddard said in an opinion issued Friday.

Goddard wrote the opinion in response to questions from state Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne about how to enforce Proposition 300.

The initiative, overwhelmingly passed by Arizona voters in November, requires illegal immigrants to pay out-of-state tuition at the state's public universities and colleges. Out-of-state tuition costs about three times more than what Arizona residents pay.

It also prohibits illegal immigrants from participating in state-funded educational services, including general equivalency programs, and immigrant and adult education classes provided by school districts, community colleges, correctional facilities, and other organizations.
