An Arizona Department of Public Safety officer arrested a man on suspicion of eight counts of human smuggling.

Luis Carrillo, 30, was stopped at 5:30 a.m. Monday on Interstate 10 near Broadway Road for several traffic violations, according to police.

The officer noticed several people lying on top of each other in the suspect's Jeep Cherokee. The driver told the officer that he was transporting eight undocumented immigrants to New York City, police said.
