News From the Border

Providing the news from a different front but from a war that we must win as well! I recognize the poverty and desperate conditions that many Latinos live in. We, as the USA, have a responsibility to do as much as we can to reach out to aid and assist spiritually with the Gospel and naturally with training, technology and resources. But poverty gives no one the right to break the laws of another sovereign nation.

Tuberculosis on the Border

An article in the Tribuna in San Luis Rio Colorado concerning Tuberculosis:

San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora.- Durante lo que ha transcurrido del año 2007, se han registrado diez casos nuevos de tuberculosis, en tanto que en el 2006 ingresaron 59 personas al tratamiento que se les brinda en los Servicios de Salud de Sonora en forma gratuita de los cuales 27 se curaron en ese mismo año y actualmente se tiene a 31 pacientes bajo control.
San Luis Colorado River, Sonora - During which it has passed of year 2007, ten new cases of tuberculosis have been registered, whereas in the 2006 59 people entered to the treatment that offers them free in the Services of Health of Sonora of which 27 were cured in that same year and at the moment it is had to 31 patients under control.

59 "reported" cases last year. 31 still not cured. 10 "reported" cases already this year. There is no way to know how many cases there actually are and how many are crossing the border while infectious. According to the article below, for every one person with the disease, 15 have been exposed. That means almost 800 people exposed last year in San Luis and 150 so far this year. -mm
