News From the Border

Providing the news from a different front but from a war that we must win as well! I recognize the poverty and desperate conditions that many Latinos live in. We, as the USA, have a responsibility to do as much as we can to reach out to aid and assist spiritually with the Gospel and naturally with training, technology and resources. Border Patrol Agents Seize More Than $3 Million of Narcotics

Friday, March 23, 2007

Edinburg, Texas — U.S. Customs and Border Protection Border Patrol agents intercepted more than 2,500 pounds of marijuana and over 29 pounds of cocaine in two different cases at the Falfurrias and Sarita checkpoints on March 21. The contraband has a combined estimated value of more than $3.1 million.

The first seizure occurred when agents assigned to the Falfurrias Border Patrol checkpoint observed a tractor-trailer enter the primary inspection area. While the primary agent performed an immigration check on the driver, a CBP Border Patrol canine team conducted a non-intrusive, free air sniff around the trailer. The canine alerted to the trailer area and the driver was directed to the secondary inspection area for a closer inspection. A search of the trailer revealed 126 bundles of marijuana weighing 2,715 pounds stacked under a load of watermelons. The load of marijuana is worth $2,172,000. The 31 year-old U.S. citizen driver was arrested.
