Providing the news from a different front but from a war that we must win as well! I recognize the poverty and desperate conditions that many Latinos live in. A 17-year-old former Sunset High School student was arrested Friday for allegedly trying to cross the Bridge of the Americas with 478 pounds of marijuana, according to law enforcement officials.

Karla Talley, of the 11100 block of Loma Escondida, was detained by U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Thursday when a drug-sniffing dog alerted officers to a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu she was driving, officials said.

Officers seized the marijuana, which was wrapped into 444 bundles, and then turned Talley over to El Paso police, a customs statement said.

El Paso County District Attorney Jaime Esparza said the defendant's youth and perhaps immaturity would be factors in the case. He added: "What's also a factor in reviewing the case is the level of sophistication and the amount of contraband."
