News From the Border

Providing the news from a different front but from a war that we must win as well! I recognize the poverty and desperate conditions that many Latinos live in. We, as the USA, have a responsibility to do as much as we can to reach out to aid and assist spiritually with the Gospel and naturally with training, technology and resources. But poverty gives no one the right to break the laws of another sovereign nation.

Recall Petitions Against San Luis City Council Members

Posted by Anthony Franklin, 12/4/2006

New developments in the political drama surrounding San Luis, Ariz.

Bill Cordova, whose wife is former San Luis city manager Rosie Cordova, said he and a subcommittee are looking into a recall for several city council members and the mayor. He said he took out the petitions on Friday. Rosie Cordova said she did not file the recall petitions.

Sunday Council member Rafael Torres and Mayor Juan Carlos Escamilla told News 13 that four recall petitions were taken out against council members Tony Reyes Junior, Archibaldo Gurrola, Rafael Torres and Mayor Juan Carlos Escamilla.

They said people close to Rosie Cordova are behind the petitions.
Escamilla said several losing candidates are still upset with how the election turned out.

Torres said he expects retaliation petitions to be taken out against other city council members in coming weeks.

I have posted this to illustrate a point. After every election in San Luis, AZ, there is a recall. According to www.city-data.com, San Luis is nearly 90% Hispanic. You must understand that, in Mexico, you assume that every government official and every law enforcement officer is at least on the take and most possibly corrupt. There are exceptions but very few. When the Mexicans migrated to San Luis, AZ, they imported their language (You are hard pressed to find some one who speaks English in town.), their culture and their corruption. -mm
