Jacumba, Calif. -- Sunday morning, National Guardsmen assisting the Border Patrol near
Jacumba, CA, spotted 11 people crossing into the
United States from
Mexico. Border Patrol agents responded to the area and observed people fleeing back into
Mexico. While searching the area, agents found eight backpacks filled with 457 pounds of marijuana and arrested a Mexican national who admitted to being illegally present in the
United States. The marijuana was determined to have an estimated street value of $365,600. The suspect and narcotics were turned over to the DEA for further investigation.
The San Diego Sector Border Patrol has seized 9,325 lbs. of marijuana since October 1. The National Guard provides additional eyes on the border, contributing to the Border Patrol,s mission of protecting the United States by preventing dangerous people and drugs from entering our country.
