News From the Border

Providing the news from a different front but from a war that we must win as well! I recognize the poverty and desperate conditions that many Latinos live in. We, as the USA, have a responsibility to do as much as we can to reach out to aid and assist spiritually with the Gospel and naturally with training, technology and resources. But poverty gives no one the right to break the laws of another sovereign nation.

Wednesday, January 16, 2008

Tucson, Ariz. — Border Patrol agents from the Tucson Station nabbed a convicted murderer yesterday after he crossed illegally into the United States near Sasabe, Ariz.

About noon, agents arrested Jesus Eugenio Castilla-Aguilar, a 32 year-old Mexican national. Once he was enrolled into the IDENT and IAFIS system, agents found an extensive criminal and immigration history.

In September 2003, Castilla-Aguilar was arrested and subsequently convicted of criminally negligent homicide in Albion, New York. He also served a 45-day jail sentence connected with a criminal arrest by New York State Police in Rochester, New York. On 2 separate occasions, Castilla-Aguilar was ordered deported. The first time was in 1999 for unspecified criminal activity in Buffalo, New York. The second time was in 2004 through San Ysidro, California.

The criminal check concluded with no current warrants outstanding. However, Castilla is being held in custody pending prosecution for re-entry after deportation.
