TIJUANA, Mexico, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- The toll among police officers in Tijuana, Mexico, has risen with the killings of two senior officers.

Jose de Jesus Arias Rico, chief of the central La Mesa District, and Assistant Chief Elbert Escobedo Marquez were shot late Monday night, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported. Their bodies were found in a 1988 Ford Escort in the La Mesa district.

The officers are the third and fourth to be found dead this month. The bodies of a district chief abducted in late December and another police officer were discovered Jan. 3.
