TIJUANA – A man who identified himself as a Tijuana police officer was charged Monday with trying to enter the United States at the San Ysidro port of entry with 53 pounds of marijuana in his car, according to U.S. authorities.

Raul Andrade-Landavazo was crossing the border about 9 a.m. when a drug-sniffing dog caught whiff of something inside his Volkswagen Jetta, according to U.S. federal court records.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer then noticed something unusual about the gas tank, according to the complaint. When he tapped it, the tank sounded solid.

Andrade was put into handcuffs and escorted away as the inspection continued.

The drugs were found in a false compartment under the rear seat of the car, according to the records.
