Monday, April 02, 2007

Yuma, Ariz. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection Border Patrol agents assigned to the Yuma Sector’s Wellton Border Patrol station captured two suspects involved in the armed robbery of a store in Hyder, Ariz. Sunday at 10 p.m.

The Yuma County Sherriff’s Office requested Border Patrol assistance and alerted agents that three individuals, armed with a shotgun, robbed the store and that two of the individuals left in a vehicle while the third fled on a stolen all-terrain vehicle. The agents located a vehicle matching the description given by the sheriff’s office and initiated a vehicle stop. The vehicle’s occupants, both U.S. citizens, were apprehended by a sheriff’s office deputy at the scene and were transported to the crime scene where they were positively identified.

While searching for the third suspect and the stolen ATV, agents located a shotgun matching the description of the gun used in the robbery. The ATV was later recovered in Dateland, Ariz. The suspect has not been located.
