We, as the USA, have a responsibility to do as much as we can to reach out to aid and assist spiritually with the Gospel and naturally with training, technology and resources. But poverty gives no one the right to break the laws of another sovereign nation.

Court defies amendment on migrants, bail

A Maricopa County court official told staffers to stop asking inmates for their immigration status despite a constitutional amendment that denies bail for illegal immigrants accused of serious crimes, a newspaper investigation showed.

Penny Stinson, a Superior Court pretrial services director, handed down the order Nov. 17, shortly before the amendment took effect.

"Due to recent changes in the legislation and the liberty interest implications, we will no longer be asking defendants any questions regarding their citizenship," Stinson wrote in an e-mail obtained by the East Valley Tribune.
