March 31, 2007 - 11:32PM

A U.S. Border Patrol agent assigned to the Yuma sector’s Wellton station seized more than $20,000 cash from a suspected smuggling vehicle about 4 a.m. Thursday.

The agent was working near Painted Rock, approximately 70 miles east of Wellton and was alerted to a suspicious vehicle traveling in the area and initiated a vehicle stop.

After questioning the driver, the agent received permission to search the vehicle and located a hidden compartment containing the money.
