SAN LUIS, Ariz. - Residents of this border city and south Yuma County had differing opinions on the value of President Bush’s visit here this week, but they were united in opposition to his immigration reform proposals.

Residents and public officials agreed that border fortification work that has taken place in San Luis over the past year has improved security and has reduced crime.

But they termed impractical a Bush proposal that would require illegal aliens currently here to go back to Mexico and pay thousands of dollars to apply for legal residency.
