JUAREZ -- Juárez municipal police officials announced Monday that they are increasing anti-gang efforts with daily operations in various parts of the city.

The operations are an expansion of weekend gang sweeps in problematic neighborhoods.

In Juárez, there are 497 gangs with a total of about 6,000 members, according to police statistics. Gang members account for about 60 percent of crimes, including robberies, auto thefts and burglaries.
