After years of work both locally and in Washington, D.C., the funding for the planned San Luis II commercial port of entry has received final approval and construction will go forward.

"It is a done deal," said Ryan Patmintra, press secretary for U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl.

Patmintra said the General Services Administration informed Kyl that $42.029 million had been allocated for the project. He said typically GSA monies are disbursed rapidly, but that would be up to the agency.

The new port of entry aims to handle the increasing truck traffic coming through this area. It will be five miles east of the current U.S. Port of Entry at San Luis, Ariz.
