MEXICO CITY – Canadian Foreign Minister Peter McKay on Thursday offered to support President Felipe Calderón in his fight against organized crime and the drug trade, saying his country has a vested interest in Mexico's security.
Addressing the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Mexico City, McKay said Canada would be willing to share training and technology with Mexico to help.
With a significant Canadian business presence and more than 1 million Canadian tourists visiting Mexico, “we also have a stake, a strong vested interest in Mexico's success when it comes to security,” McKay said.

The Canadian government has to say something because of a feeding frenzy in the media up north. Mexico usually doesn't get much attention in the Canadian media - except when something bad happens to a tourist. Two Canadians being killed in hit-and-run accidents in Mexico last month and stories surfacing of others in bad situations are really getting a lot of people back in Canada quite upset.
