Border Patrol agents interrupted a drug-smuggling attempt Thursday night and arrested two smugglers as they tried to bring 492 pounds of marijuana into the United States five miles east of the Fabens bridge, Customs and Border Protection officials said.

The agents were alerted to the smuggling attempt by members of the Texas National Guard operating a border camera, officials said. Agents first found burlap sacks with two arm straps, a common transportation mode for marijuana, then the two smugglers. Other smugglers are believed to have fled to Mexico. The value of the marijuana is $400,000, officials said.
