Mexican cops make massive cocaine haul

February 08 2007 at 07:21AM

Mexico City - Police found almost a ton of cocaine stuffed in 25 suitcases that arrived on a Mexicana flight from Caracas to the Mexican capital, the government said on Wednesday.

The cocaine, stashed in ordinary wheeled suitcases, was discovered after the luggage ended up on the carousel in the Mexico City airport and officials noticed the identification labels were false, police said in a statement.

Local media said the haul was the biggest drug seizure ever made at the airport and worth around $18-million (about R130-million). Police did not say whether anyone was arrested.
