News From the Border

Providing the news from a different front but from a war that we must win as well! I recognize the poverty and desperate conditions that many Latinos live in. We, as the USA, have a responsibility to do as much as we can to reach out to aid and assist spiritually with the Gospel and naturally with training, technology and resources. But poverty gives no one the right to break the laws of another sovereign nation.

Suspected drug tunnel found in Nogales

A U.S. Border Patrol agent discovered three men digging a presumed drug tunnel in an abandoned house in Nogales, 20 yards from the international border fence.

The agent made the discovery at 438 W. International Blvd. Wednesday around 5:30 p.m. while patrolling the area, said Border Patrol spokesman Gustavo Soto.

The agent spotted the first man, whom he later determined to be in the country illegally, outside the house, Soto said. While questioning him, he heard noise coming from inside the house. The agent approached the house and demanded the occupants exit.

Two men came out of the house, Soto said. Both were covered in dirt and one was carrying a pick ax.

Upon entering the house, agents discovered sleeping bags, food, a lot of dirt and a 2- to 3-feet-wide tunnel about 20 feet long.
