Area transportation planners are lauding the efforts of U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva, D-District 7, to add a stretch of highway from the U.S. Port of Entry at San Luis, Ariz., to a national highway plan that connects trade routes from the U.S.-Mexico border to the U.S.-Canada border.

Grijalva added a western passage to the overall project that will link both ports of entry in San Luis to the state's corridor, which runs through Arizona to the Nevada border.

The addition will be part of the CANAMEX Corridor Project, a plan by Congress to designate routes throughout the country to help facilitate trade among the three countries.

"We're very excited to gain the support of the congressman and the Greater Yuma Port Authority in developing the
western CANAMEX," said Mack Luckie, of the Yuma Metropolitan Planning Organization.
