News From the Border

Providing the news from a different front but from a war that we must win as well! I recognize the poverty and desperate conditions that many Latinos live in. We, as the USA, have a responsibility to do as much as we can to reach out to aid and assist spiritually with the Gospel and naturally with training, technology and resources. But poverty gives no one the right to break the laws of another sovereign nation.

Illegal immigration's cost

Article Launched: 02/11/2008 12:00:00 AM PST

Supervisor Mike Antonovich has revealed the horrendous costs of illegal aliens, just in our county alone. Consider these numbers when you vote for the candidate who promises to stop this flow of illegals into the United States.

Twenty-five percent of all welfare and food stamp benefits are going directly to children of illegal aliens. Illegal immigrants collected in welfare more than $20 million for November 2007 and more than $16million in monthly food stamps for a projected annual cost of $444 million.

Antonovich said: "With $220 million for public safety, $400 million for health care, and $444 million in welfare, the total cost for L.A. County taxpayers (alone) far exceeds one billion dollars, not including millions of dollars for education."

I know an 80-year-old woman, widow of a Pearl Harbor military veteran survivor, who still has to work to be able to pay her property taxes. The only job she can find is in a hotel kitchen. It's hard work. She has lost both breasts to cancer. She had a hysterectomy. Give me 100 reasons why this woman - or any American - should be forced to work to pay taxes for illegals who broke our laws to get here. No, just give me one good reason.
