CAMPO – Three Border Patrol agents in East County fired shots yesterday at a pickup with several suspected illegal immigrants inside when the truck sped toward some agents, authorities said.

The pickup's driver, a suspected immigrant smuggler, and the front-seat passenger were injured and taken to a hospital, sheriff's Lt. Dennis Brugos said.

One person was in serious condition and the other in stable condition last night, sheriff's officials said.

Four suspected illegal immigrants in the back seat were not believed to have been injured. They were being questioned last night, Brugos said.
