MEXICO CITY – Five killings in the Mexico City area are the consequence a major drug bust at the capital's international airport, a law enforcement official close to the case told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

An official at the federal attorney general's office who was not authorized to be quoted by name said the killings were related to the seizure of a half-ton of cocaine at the airport. The official did not elaborate.

Authorities found the bodies over the past week. The heads of two victims were found in Mexico City and their bodies in neighboring Mexico state, Octavio Campos, spokesman for the Mexico state attorney general's office, told The Associated Press.

The federal Attorney General's Office announced the cocaine seizure on Sunday, but did not say what day it occurred. The cocaine arrived from Colombia in 500 packets.
