News From the Border

Providing the news from a different front but from a war that we must win as well! I recognize the poverty and desperate conditions that many Latinos live in. We, as the USA, have a responsibility to do as much as we can to reach out to aid and assist spiritually with the Gospel and naturally with training, technology and resources. But poverty gives no one the right to break the laws of another sovereign nation.

Calexico port officers help woman give birth to baby boy

FROM STAFF REPORTS

December 5, 2007 - 7:52AM

Officers at the U.S. Port of Entry in Calexico, Calif., recently welcomed a new arrival - literally.

The Customs and Border Protection Officers helped a 20-year-woman give birth to a baby boy Saturday morning at the port, the CBP said in a news release issued Tuesday night.

The woman, a U.S. citizen living in Mexicali, Baja Calif., gave birth shortly after being assisted into the pedestrian building of the port by two men.

The woman, whose name was not released by CBP for privacy reasons, told officers she was in her eighth month of pregnancy and had not expected to go into labor so early.

CBP officers brought her to a secondary office away from public view and placed her on a bed of blankets to make her as comfortable as possible, while a 911 emergency call was made, said Calexico Port Director Billy Whitford.

One officer offered words of encouragement to the mother as she pushed, Whitford said. The baby's head appeared, delivery followed, and a second CBP officer cleared the inside of the baby's mouth to assure the infant was breathing properly, he said.

The baby was cleaned, wrapped in towels and held for an ambulance, which took him and the mother to a nearby medical facility for followup care.

Can you hear Bruce Springsteen's "Born In The USA" playing in the background? Now this baby has all the rights of every other US citizen just because his mother, not a US citizen, made sure she was on US soil when it was born. This is abuse of the law! -missionaryman
