Laredo, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Laredo Port of Entry shut down three separate narcotics smuggling attempts and prevented a total of $5.2 million in illicit drugs from reaching U.S. streets.
The largest marijuana seizure of the 24-hour period occurred about 10 p.m. Thursday, March 15 at Colombia-Solidarity Bridge. CBP officers referred a 1999 Great Dane tractor hauling a shipment of electrical equipment for a secondary examination. During the examination, CBP canine “Poncho” alerted to the odor of narcotics emanating from the trailer. Upon further examination, CBP officers discovered bundles of marijuana co-mingled with the shipment.
CBP officers seized a total of 1,925 pounds of marijuana. The marijuana has an estimated street value of $1.9 million. No arrests were made, but U.S. Immigration and Customs and Enforcement special agents continue to investigate the seizure.
