Tuesday, February 06, 2007

Yuma, Ariz. — Two U.S. Customs and Border Protection Border Patrol agents assigned to the Yuma Sector became the latest subjects of violence along the U.S./Mexico border when unknown assailants threw rocks at the agents Monday night.

The first incident occurred at 9 p.m. near the Andrade, Calif. port of entry while the agent was patrolling along the U.S./Mexico border. The agent was assaulted by a softball-sized rock thrown by an individual on the Mexican side of the boundary fence, which shattered the driver’s side windshield, showering the agent with broken glass. The agent was not injured. The vehicle was towed from the area due to the damaged windshield.

The second assault occurred at 11 p.m. near the San Luis, Ariz. port of entry while a Border Patrol agent was patrolling along the Salinity Canal. A rock shattered the passenger side windshield of the agent’s vehicle. The agent was not injured in the attack and the vehicle was driven to the Yuma Sector’s vehicle maintenance facility for repair.
