News From the Border

Providing the news from a different front but from a war that we must win as well! I recognize the poverty and desperate conditions that many Latinos live in. We, as the USA, have a responsibility to do as much as we can to reach out to aid and assist spiritually with the Gospel and naturally with training, technology and resources. But poverty gives no one the right to break the laws of another sovereign nation.

A suspected illegal immigrant was shot and wounded before dawn today in Rio Rico in a confrontation with U.S. Border Patrol agents, Santa Cruz County Sheriff Antonio Estrada said.

The agents had been staffing a checkpoint in Santa Cruz County and went on a coffee break about 4 a.m. at a gasoline station and market just off Interstate 19 in Rio Rico, Estrada said.

When the agents got to the market they spotted a man acting suspiciously near a gas pump, walked up to him and asked his name, Estrada said.

The man, who agents said appeared drunk, would not talk and began throwing rocks at them.

At least one Border Patrol agent fired at the man, hitting him in the upper left arm and grazing his torso, Estrada said. At least three shots were fired.
