News From the Border

Providing the news from a different front but from a war that we must win as well! I recognize the poverty and desperate conditions that many Latinos live in. We, as the USA, have a responsibility to do as much as we can to reach out to aid and assist spiritually with the Gospel and naturally with training, technology and resources. But poverty gives no one the right to break the laws of another sovereign nation.

Three men killed in prison in violent Mexican border city

NUEVO LAREDO, Mexico Police say three men were stabbed to death yesterday inside a prison in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. That brings the number of killings this year in the border city to 113.

Home-made knives were used to kill Mauro Antonio Ibarra, Ramiro Ramos and Juan Miguel Rivera. Police in the state of Tamaulipas say the men were alleged to be members of a prison gang.

The state prison in Nuevo Laredo has been plagued by violence despite promises by the state government to make it more secure. In March, three people were choked to death in the penitentiary.

Nuevo Laredo has been caught in a turf war between rival drug gangs fighting for billion-dollar smuggling routes into the United States. Investigators say the fight is also being fought out in the prison.
