News From the Border

Providing the news from a different front but from a war that we must win as well! I recognize the poverty and desperate conditions that many Latinos live in. We, as the USA, have a responsibility to do as much as we can to reach out to aid and assist spiritually with the Gospel and naturally with training, technology and resources. But poverty gives no one the right to break the laws of another sovereign nation.

Mexican Companies Don't Play by the Rules!

Though I have only anecdotal evidence and my own experience from living on the border, this is a persistant and annoying situation.

Today, I had to travel almost 10 miles from the border in the US before I had a US cell phone signal. With impunity, Mexican cell phone companies erect cell towers and amp up their signal until US service is all but eliminated. We experienced this with Spirit three years ago. To got so bad that our phone was useless unless we wanted to pay the more than $1/minute roaming fee that the Mexican cell company would charge!

In conversation with the owners of an FM radio station in Yuma, I was told that they have the same problem with Mexican radio stations. US radio station frequencies and power are closely reguated and monitored by the FCC, but that is not true of their counterparts in Mexico. Their frequencies may be assigned but that does not prevent them from blasting a signal of incredible power that drowns out signals anywhere near them on the dial!
