News From the Border

Providing the news from a different front but from a war that we must win as well! I recognize the poverty and desperate conditions that many Latinos live in. We, as the USA, have a responsibility to do as much as we can to reach out to aid and assist spiritually with the Gospel and naturally with training, technology and resources. Tucson Border Agents Seize Ton of Marijuana over Weekend

Monday, February 04, 2008

Tucson, Ariz. — Border Patrol agents from the Tucson, Ariz. sector seized more than 2,200 pounds of marijuana during routine weekend patrols.

On Saturday afternoon, agents assigned to the Casa Grande Station spotted horse tracks on the Tohono O’odham Reservation near the village of Cowlic. They followed the sign to an abandoned shack in Bigfields, Ariz. where they located 30 bundles of marijuana. The marijuana weighed just more than 743 pounds and was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Early this morning, at approximately 3:45 a.m., agents assigned to the Ajo Station were on routine patrol along Federal Route 1 when they spotted vehicle tracks leading from the roadway into the desert. Agents followed the tracks for about a quarter-mile where they discovered an abandoned truck, with a large number of marijuana bundles in the back.

A records check of the Dodge Truck determined it had been stolen from Phoenix January 31. Tohono O’odham Police were contacted and they took possession of the stolen truck. The drugs were transported back to the Ajo Border Patrol Station, where they were weighed. A total of 60 bundles weighing more than 1,450 pounds were processed and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
