News From the Border

Providing the news from a different front but from a war that we must win as well! I recognize the poverty and desperate conditions that many Latinos live in. We, as the USA, have a responsibility to do as much as we can to reach out to aid and assist spiritually with the Gospel and naturally with training, technology and resources. But poverty gives no one the right to break the laws of another sovereign nation.

Seven human smugglers along with 28 suspected illegal immigrants were taken into custody on Thursday after Phoenix police raided an apparent "drop house."

Phoenix police said that a call came in at around 11:30 a.m. from one of the illegal immigrants directing them to the home near Indian School Road and 57th Avenue. The illegal immigrant told police that he was being held prisoner by the human smugglers or "coyotes" and had escaped from the home through a window. He had used a neighbor's phone to call police.

Officials said the illegal immigrants, five females and 23 males, had been in the house for three days. All were bound. Authorities said that several of the illegal immigrants had been beaten as the suspected "coyotes" made extortion calls to their families in Mexico.
