The El Paso man who allegedly killed a woman near Ruidoso then drove to Juárez to burn her body in Mexico, hoping to confuse investigators, court documents filed last week showed.

"I leave her there, so it don't come back to me," Guillermo Ruiz Armendariz told El Paso detectives in December, according to an arrest affidavit filed in New Mexico.

Ruiz, 36, of the 3200 block of Sal Berroteran, was charged Jan. 28 by the district attorney in Alamogordo with the Dec. 18 murder of Anabel Calzaba Alvarado, 20, of Ruidoso. He was also charged with four counts of tampering with evidence for allegedly removing the body, his clothes, his vehicle and the crime weapon -- a knife -- from the crime scene.

He also was charged with false imprisonment and child abuse, because Calzaba Alvarado's 2-year-old son was in the car during the whole ordeal and because Ruiz allegedly abandoned him in the streets of Downtown Juárez.
