Agent saves migrants from driverless truck

Two suspected smugglers bailed out of a moving dump truck in Douglas on Tuesday, leaving the truck in gear and 23 illegal immigrants inside the bucket, a Border Patrol spokesman said.
Without a driver, the truck rolled for about 75 yards before a Border Patrol agent jumped in and hit the brakes, Agent Mike Scioli said.
The incident occurred about 9 a.m. on 18th Street, a small road on the north side of the border town, Scioli said.
The agent was following the truck on state Route 80 when he noticed its registration wasn't local and the driver was erratic, Scioli said.
The agent followed the truck around several turns before the driver and a passenger leapt from the cab, he said.
The immigrants in the back of the truck were uninjured, Scioli said. They returned to Mexico voluntarily.
