The head of an El Paso smuggling ring that hired commercial truck drivers to transport undocumented immigrants in their sleeper cabs was sentenced to four months in prison in federal court Friday in El Paso, officials with the U.S. attorney's office said.

Ramon Felix, 46, of the 1200 block of Roswell Road, was arrested in June and pleaded guilty to conspiracy to smuggle aliens in October. Friday, he was sentenced to four months in prison and four months of home confinement, followed by three years of supervised release. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said the ring smuggled hundreds of migrants through El Paso during the past three years and charged each migrant $2,500 each, $600 of which went to the truck driver.
