Gun battle reported in Reynosa

The Monitor

REYNOSA — Hundreds of Mexican federal police and soldiers have converged near the intersection of Hidalgo Boulevard and Praxedis Balboa, better known as Linea del Gas, in response to a gun battle that erupted about 6:30 p.m. today.

Witnesses report two federal officers have been killed and one injured, with at least one of the officers dying at an area hospital about two hours after the firefight began.

The shooting started about 10 blocks from this intersection, where a standoff seemed to be developing about 9:15 p.m. after a chase that resulted in the conflict moving to this location.

Witnesses reported a truck along the chase route had been burned when a grenade detonated, and there were also reports of bazooka fire.
