CBP Apprehends Fugitive with Warrant, $1 Million Bail
Otay Mesa, Calif. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Otay Mesa, Calif. port of entry earlier this week apprehended a 49-year old fugitive with a felony warrant with bail set at $1 million, officials announced today.
CBP officers encountered the Costa Mesa resident, Jose Orozco, about 9 p.m. January 12, when he entered the border crossing as a passenger in a 2005 Toyota Tundra. Orozco presented his lawful permanent resident card to the primary officer who queried the card in a law enforcement database and received an alert that Orozco was a wanted person.
The driver and occupants of the vehicle were escorted to a secure location for further processing.
During the secondary inspection, officers positively identified Orozco by checking his fingerprints through the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System.
After confirming the warrant with the San Diego sheriff’s office, CBP officers transported and booked Orozco into the San Diego County jail. The other occupants of the vehicle were released.
