A nonprofit group that assists U.S. citizens who are injured in Mexico is conducting its annual blanket drive for needy families in Tijuana.

The Binational Emergency Medical Care Committee is collecting blankets at its office at 642 Third Ave., Suite I, Chula Vista. The blankets will be delivered in early January to residents of Tijuana's poorer neighborhoods.

Donations of nonperishable food items, toys or monetary donations with which to buy blankets also are being accepted. The organization also has been collecting donations recently for victims of the October wildfires. For more information, call the committee at (619) 425-5080. –L.B.

Opportunities like this exists up and down the border and are much needed!
