Seven people in the Yuma area were arrested Wednesday as part of what the federal government called the nationwide dismantling of an enormous Mexican narcotics operation.

Sixty-six people across the country were arrested Wednesday in the culmination of a 20-month investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and other law enforcement, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Forty agents executed eight search warrants at residences in Yuma, Somerton and San Luis, Ariz., arresting five people on federal charges and two on state charges. The seven men operated in two separate distribution cells here for the Victor Emilio Cazares-Gastellum drug trafficking organization, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Liz Barrick.
