News From the Border

Providing the news from a different front but from a war that we must win as well! I recognize the poverty and desperate conditions that many Latinos live in. We, as the USA, have a responsibility to do as much as we can to reach out to aid and assist spiritually with the Gospel and naturally with training, technology and resources. But poverty gives no one the right to break the laws of another sovereign nation.

U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Wellton station discovered two abandoned vehicles containing nearly 3,500 pounds of marijuana around 7 a.m. Monday while patrolling southeast of Tacna.

"It's nearly two tons of marijuana," said Border Patrol spokesman Lloyd Easterling. He said another spokesman thought this was the largest load agents seized in at least the past five years.

Agents patrolling the border 35 miles south of Tacna noticed vehicle tracks leading from the international boundary into the Arizona desert. After following the tracks, agents spotted two vehicles, a Chevrolet and a Hummer, that had become stuck in a wash, according to a news release.

Agents found many bundles of marijuana inside with an estimated value of over $2.7 million, the release said.
