Kidnappings raise alarm in Mexico

MEXICO CITY, March 11 (UPI) Many throughout Mexico are living in constant fear amid rampant kidnappings that have occurred in recent years.

The San Antonio News-Express talked to several families in and around Mexico City who reported being afraid to go out at night. Many also reported feeling compelled to wear inexpensive clothes and drive run-down cars so as not to attract attention of possible kidnappers.

The News-Express reported that kidnappers demand ransom for their victims and hold them for months or even years. It is also common for kidnappers to cut off victims' fingers and threaten to kill them.
