SAN LUIS RIO COLORADO, Son. — The final results for the close race for Mexico's presidential election are yet to be announced but residents in this border city found out who their newly elected mayor is.

Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador of the Revolutionary Democratic Party is leading the race with an advantage less than 2 percentage points over Felipe Calderón of the National Action Party as of Wednesday night with over 85 percent of the polls counted, according to the Federal Electoral Institute Web site.

But locally official counts confirmed Ruben Espino is San Luis Rio Colorado's newly elected mayor Tuesday night, said Brenda Reina, administrative aid at the city's electoral council.

The final number count was unavailable Wednesday as the only official who can release this information, council President Jose Trinidad Gutierrerz Ulloa, could not be reached.

Ruben Espino does not know the exact number but said he won with over a 10,000 vote difference.

"I feel a lot of responsibility toward residents of San Luis and I'm going to put all my effort to
fulfill beyond their expectations," he said.
