News From the Border

Providing the news from a different front but from a war that we must win as well! I recognize the poverty and desperate conditions that many Latinos live in. We, as the USA, have a responsibility to do as much as we can to reach out to aid and assist spiritually with the Gospel and naturally with training, technology and resources. Guard says it will meet border goal by Aug. 1

The Associated Press

The Army National Guard will meet its Aug. 1 deadline for deploying troops to help along the Mexican border, the Guard's chief said Friday.

Lt. Gen. Steven Blum said about 3,600 soldiers are in the Southwest border states of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.

"That number will grow to up to 6,000 by the first of August, as promised," he told a Pentagon news conference.

The deployments are part of an immigration plan announced by President Bush in mid-May.
