News From the Border

Providing the news from a different front but from a war that we must win as well! I recognize the poverty and desperate conditions that many Latinos live in. We, as the USA, have a responsibility to do as much as we can to reach out to aid and assist spiritually with the Gospel and naturally with training, technology and resources. But poverty gives no one the right to break the laws of another sovereign nation.

May 9, 2006

More than a ton of marijuana was seized by El Centro sector Border Patrol agents Tuesday morning.

At 6 a.m., agents apprehended two illegal aliens from Mexico who were attempting to smuggle 2,322 pounds of marijuana across the border through the Imperial Sand Dunes, according to an El Centro sector release.

Agents saw a white Ford F-150 and a white Ford Expedition enter the U.S. illegally through the dunes. The vehicles attempted to escape capture by heading westbound on Interstate 8, but the truck was stopped by a tire deflation device. The Expedition pulled over when agents conducted a traffic stop, according to the release.

The marijuana loaded in the vehicles has a street value of $1,857,600. The Expedition was stolen out of Carlsbad, Calif.

The drivers were arrested and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration along with the vehicles and marijuana, the release said.
